The origin of the Usher of the Black Rod goes back to early fourteenth century England . Today, with no royal duties to perform, the Usher knocks on the doors of the House of Commons with the Black Rod at the start of Parliament to summon the members. The rod is a symbol for the authority of debate in the upper house. We of The Black Rod have since 2005, adopted the symbol to knock some sense and the right questions into the heads of Legislators, pundits, and other opinion makers.

Greg Selinger's perverted interpretation of Martin Luther King's "I Have A Dream" speech





It was like a blow to the solar plexus.

It was the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King's "I Have A Dream" speech and the newscasts across North America were all carrying stories.  They can't broadcast the entire speech because it is copywrited, so they ran small excerpts.  We were flipping channels when we landed on this clip from the speech:

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the colour of their skin but by the content of their character.

I have a dream today!

It felt as if the air was sucked out of the room.  There was the stark realization that the NDP have taken Manitoba 50 years into the past--- to a time when racism was accepted practice by governments, when racist speech was not condemned, when racists openly held public office.

Manitoba Premier Selinger let slip in the Legislature yesterday that the email sent by Deputy Premier Eric Robinson,which contained a racist slur against white people, was released under a request from the Freedom of Information Act only after Robinson's deputy minister censored the offensive passage.
That deputy minister blacked out the two lines in the email where Robinson spoke of the "ignorance of do good white people."  He delivered the censored email to the person who filed for the document. 

It's not hard to imagine the scramble that followed.

The deputy minister rushing to tell Robinson how he had contained the political damage that the release of the email in its entirety would have caused. 

Robinson calling up the people who received the racist email to give them a heads up on how his office had covered-up the potentially explosive comments. 

Everyone having a good laugh at the expense of those "do good white people."

But what they didn't know was that the blacked out portion of the email had been deciphered.


To test just how deep the racist ideology extended in the NDP government, the recipient of the censored email approached Robinson directly, and, feigning innocence, asked him to uncensor the redacted two lines of the document. 

Of course he refused. The request was made a second time, with the same result.

Three times Eric Robinson was asked what had been blacked out from his email. Three times he claimed it was "advice"  which was exempt from public disclosure.

Nobody reading the blacked out portion of the email believes its anything other than a racial slur and not "advice" other than who to hate.

But it was the reaction to the revelation of Robinson's mindset that makes you sick.

Outed by Aboriginal Peoples Television Network, Robinson repeated his anti-white slur, declared he had nothing to apologize for, and defiantly stated that anyone who knew him knew he said what he meant and he meant what he said.   
The next day he said he had a right to be racist because he had experienced racism from whites.

The Premier of the Province defended his racist deputy minister by saying the email was a private communication and never meant to be read by the public.  So, he's saying, hidden racism is acceptable in the NDP government. Just don't reveal your bias.

Every day this week the entire NDP caucus has applauded the justifications for racism.

Arthur Schafer, a prominent "ethics' professor who is frequently asked by reporters to pontificate on public policy matters, excused anti-white racism and said Selinger may actually have been too critical of Robinson.  He called racism by aboriginals "understandable" and sniffed that "You could hardly say that white do gooders are a vulnerable group."

Dan Lett, an allegedly independent media watchdog as Winnipeg Free Press political columnist, rationalized the racism of a government minister rather than demand his resignation.  Lett's only criticism was that Robinson "has provoked non-aboriginal racists".  Aboriginal racism, good, non-aboriginal racism, bad.

Even worse, if you can get worse, is seeing the aboriginal racists come out of the woodwork. 

So far, we've collected defend-the-racist comments from the youth secretariat of the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs, a former election candidate for the Liberal Party of Manitoba, a founder of Idle No More, and a program coordinator for the John Howard Society Manitoba.

The liberal news media descended on the Deep South in 1965 to expose to public condemnation the racism of the southern states.

In Manitoba 50 years later, ethics professors and newpaper columnists make excuses for racists.

The mainstream press has yet to launch a concerted investigation of how deep the strain of anti-white racism is within the NDP government

When the Premier and caucus applaud an openly self-admitted racist minister, you know the vile philosophy has permeated the entire bureaucracy and governnment. 

- Who are the "staffers" to whom Robinson sent his email?

- What responsibilities do they hold in government?

- Who do they report to?

- Will the NDP reveal what else has been blacked out in Freedom of Information requests to see if more racist comments are being covered up? 

- What sanction will Robinson's deputy minister receive for his role in hiding Robinson's racist views?

Robinson is also the Minister of Northern Affairs. How has his anti-white attitude affected dealings with mining and logging companies who want to invest in Manitoba?  (Wait a few days for a peek.)

On the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King's stirring speech, the Premier of Manitoba demonstrated in the Legislature how he has perverted the civil rights leader's inspirational words. (barf alert)

Mrs. Stefanson: I don't believe that the behaviour of the Deputy Premier is exemplary of the kind of dream that Martin Luther King had some 50 years ago. Just because a person has something stolen from them does not give themor entitle them to go out and steal from someone else. Two wrongs do not make a right.
The Premier has the opportunity to do the right thing today by removing the minister from Cabinet.

The question is: Will the Premier take the leadership and do the right thing today?

Mr. Selinger: The Deputy Premier, the Minister of Aboriginal and Northern Affairs, very much shares the dream of Martin Luther King.

Mr. Goertzen: Well, you wouldn’t even know what to appeal because it was blacked out and it was never intended to be seen, Mr. Speaker. The issue is very clear that it should never have been redacted, and it was only redacted because they’re trying to cover up for the deputy minister.

And I want to ask the government; I want to ask the Premier: When did he first learn of this freedom of information request and the fact the portion was redacted, and when did the Deputy Premier (Mr. Robinson) learn that this request had come in and that a portion of it was being redacted? When did each of them know?

Hon. Greg Selinger (Premier): Mr. Speaker, we’ve explained this. I’ve explained this. These matters are dealt with in a routine fashion by the public officials in the department. They receive the request. They deal with the request. The request–

Some Honourable Members: Oh, oh.

Mr. Speaker: I’m getting very close to the point where I have to call House leaders into a meeting. I’m sensing we’re getting out of control here again and I want to make sure I maintain control of this House, that’s my responsibility. So I’m asking for the co-operation of all honourable members, allow for the questions to be posed and for the answers to be in response. So I’m asking for the co-operation once again.
I’m sorry, I regret to interrupt to First Minister. First Minister, to continue his response.

Mr. Selinger: Thank you, Mr. Speaker.

I’ve explained to the House the standard procedures that would follow in this case. Public official receives the request, handles it in a way they consider appropriate under the legislation that guides their behaviour. That is signed off by the deputy minister and the information is made available with the very clear information at the bottom of the form that responds to the request that there is the right of appeal to the Ombudsmen of the Legislature. I’ve put that on the record. I put it on again for greater certainty.
What Selinger failed to put on the record is that he has assured that there is NO ombudsman in Manitoba. 

The last Ombudsman resigned more than a year and a half ago, and the job is being filled by an "acting" Ombudsman, a civil servant who is dependent on the NDP government for his paycheque.

I have the right to be racist, declares Manitoba's Deputy Premier


Manitoba Deputy Premier Eric Robinson is hiding behind the skirts of dead women to keep his job.

Ever since his racist views about white people were revealed last week, Robinson has been under pressure to resign or be removed by Premier Greg Selinger.

Selinger, instead, has tried to protect his racist cabinet minister, but he only has one arrow in his bow---that Robinson has lobbied on the race-specific issue of "missing and murdered aboriginal women".

Tuesday, Selinger raised the ante to claim that Robinson was nothing short of a Canadian hero, that he had single-handedly forced police across the country to start investigating the murders of aboriginal women because, he implied, the lazy, incompetent, racist fuzz hadn't been doing their job. WE'RE NOT MAKING THIS UP.  It's what he said in the Legislature.

Selinger dismissed Robinson's racist remarks ("the ignorance of do good white people") as something he said in a private email exchange.  
 
Except that it wasn't private. 
 
It was an exchange of emails with an aboriginal government official, who appears just as biased against whites as Robinson.
The Premier constantly claims Robinson apologized for what he wrote. Except that when first confronted with his racist attitude in an email, Robinson proudly and defiantly repeated his words. Then, forced by the Premier to retract, a statement was issued over his name in which it was claimed he apologized.  But when he appeared before reporters in person on Monday,  Robinson declared he had a right to be racist.  Some apology.

He was "entitled" to make racist comments towards white people, he said, because "I experienced racism first hand."

Only, he was a little muddled over the details.

First, he told reporters it was because he went to a residential school, the go-to excuse all natives use today for their irresponsible actions.  He was allegedly diddled by a priest at the Jack River School in Norway House, and so mentally scarred that he carries his hate of white people into his public duties as deputy minister.

Later, he changed his excuse. His momma was beat up by a white man and he got knocked out when he came to her aid.  Oh, and she went to a residential school, too, which was probably why she became a drunk and drug user.

We did some checking.  Robinson's mother was in a residential school from the age of 3 to 18 and, according to Robinson, it was when she left that she entered "a world of alcoholism and drug abuse."  The incident where he tried to defend his mother happened in 1963 at the hands of a "non-aboriginal" man (he's suddenly become very careful with his language) when he was 10 and she was 30. A year later she "died alone on the streets of Winnipeg."

Robinson's declaration that he is entitled to be a racist is the most shocking thing heard in the Legislature in living memory. Selinger's insistence that Robinson deserves to stay in his caucus is a declaration that racism is officially sanctioned by the NDP.

When an NDP backbencher thought it would be clever to hint that an Opposition member was gay, Selinger dove in front of the cameras and microphones to disavow his colleague.

"It's not OK to make those comments in any context," Selinger said. "I think this is an opportunity for all of us to take a honest look at homophobia in our everyday lives -- comments we hear that need to be confronted and condemned."......

People have been asking why Selinger was so ardent over a comment hardly anyone noticed but so dismissive of blatant racism by the Deputy Premier.

An Idle No More founder supports Eric Robinson's racist rant


Idle No More has joined the fray into racist remarks made by Manitoba's Deputy Premier, and, guess what?

Apparently his comment attacking the "ignorance of do good white people" is not racist, it's describing "an attitude."  Sort of like the term' drunk Indian' is a comment on sobriety and public intoxication, and not a racist slur.

Tanya Kappo, one of the claimants to originating Idle No More by inventing the hashtag for the movement, couldn't help but jump into the controversy this weekend through her Twitter account.

"Smarten up," she lectured Osborne House executive director Barbara Judt, the target of Robinson's racist comments.  "You're the one who is blatantly lying."  Nothing like civil discourse from a would-be lawyer (ptui).

 "Ignorance of do good white people" is describing an attitude, not racist, declared Kappo.

Uh, sweetie, once you bring somebody's race into the argument, it's racist. Maybe they didn't teach you that in whatever law school you claim to attend, but that's a fact, jack.

Of course, we can only say "told ya so."

Way back in February, the Black Rod uncovered the fact that one of the founders of Idle No More, Sheelah McLean, is an academic who specializes in the study of Whiteness.

You read that right. Whiteness. 

Whiteness is an actual field of study into---well,  being white. 

That's a bad thing, according to the specialists of Whiteness. You see, white people are privileged because they're white and they benefit from the fact that whites make the rules of society.  So even if they claim to be "do gooders", they're bad because they're whites and they don't even realize they're actually racists.

Got that? 

So when Tanya Kappo demonstrates institutional blindness in failing to see how referencing someone's skin colour to demonize them is a racist comment, she's just regurgitating the racist Whiteness philosophy.

This has been quite a week of revelations of rampant racism within the aboriginal community.

On the very same day that APTN interviewed Eric Robinson about his racist email, we learned about the racist attitude of Brian Sinclair, the legless vagrant who died waiting for care at the Health Sciences Centre emergency room.

A witness at the inquest into Sinclair's death testified he was so disabled, mentally and physically, that social services tried to make a foster family arrangement for him but...

"Brian said he wouldn't live with any... white man," she said.

He, too, didn't want the assistance of any "do good white people". 

He only wanted to exploit the do good instincts of the doctors, nurses and social workers who helped keep him alive after his own irresponsibility brought him to the brink of death. 

Otherwise, screw you whitey.

And this was barely a month after the release of a cell phone video taken on a Winnipeg transit bus of two foul-mouthed men ruining the ride of normal passengers subjected to racist anti-white taunts and a barrage of swearing.  

Coming on the heels of the bizarre claim from some prominent members of Winnipeg's aboriginal community that the Canadian Museum for Human Rights should declare Canada's treatment of natives a genocide, it leaves us wondering how much the CMHR intends to self-censor its exhibits.

Will the CMHR prominently point out that the only place in Canada that women do NOT have equal rights as men is on Indian reserves?  That the Indian Chiefs of the country fought tooth and nail to prevent the application on reserves of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms?

Or are they too dependent on funding from the Manitoba NDP government to raise the issue of open racism by aboriginal leaders like Eric Robinson?

The CMHR stirs up hatred and divisiveness. And it's not even open.


The two groups that thought they had control over the content within the Canadian Museum for Human Rights have been shocked to learn that they don't. 

One is fighting mad and the other is scared and confused on how to respond.


You've heard how one arm of Manitoba's Indian Chiefs insists that the CMHR label Canada's treatment of its aboriginal people as "genocide."  You  haven't heard how a segment of Winnipeg's Jewish community is shaken by concerns that the Palestinian viewpoint of Israel's creation will be allowed to be advanced within the museum.

The divisiveness and hatred the CMHR will stir up was evident when the first reports reached the public Monday of a letter sent to Stu Murray, CEO of the human rights museum, by perennial protester Grand Chief Murray Clearsky, of the Southern Chiefs Organization.

The mainstream media has given you a sanitized synopsis of the letter. You've got to read the original to see how insane it is. 
 

Here's a bit of what the MSM leaves out of its reports:

"The recent exposure of Canada using First Nations men, women and children as guinea pigs in nutritional experiments and for Tuberculosis vaccines in the 1930’s and 1940’s is reminiscent of the experiments conducted by Josef Mengele during World War Two on the Jewish population in Europe especially twin children. It has now been exposed that while thousands of First Nation men were overseas in Europe fighting the Nazis and the attempted imposition of a superior white race, Canada was quietly and simultaneously conducting similar inhumane experiments on the families, relatives and community members of the very soldiers who were putting their lives on the line for Canada."

"Many of the First Nations men, women and children who were test subjects in these atrocious nutrition and TB vaccine experiments were left forever scarred by the trauma and effects of drug testing and many were left with little hope of acknowledgement, remorse or legal recourse from the atrocities perpetrated by Canada."

Got that?  Trying to determine if vitamins could be used to improve the health of undernourished children on Indian reserves, and saving the lives of Indian school children by finding a vaccine for tuberculosis is, in Clearsky's deluded mind, no different than Josef Mengele's work at Auschwitz.
The Jews of Europe should only have been so lucky.

This pathetic attempt to conflate the Nazi program to exterminate anyone with Jewish blood with Canada's stabs at fighting a deadly disease and boosting the health of children is obscene.  There's no other word to describe it.

"It is now abundantly clear that Canada again is choosing to sanitize the true truth ..." blathered Clearsky.  Want more of his true truth?

It seems that genocide "is currently being perpetrated on First Nations through various means."

Canada, he bloviates, "has now incorporated the passive genocidal agenda through the systemic racism imposed through the Apartheidal Indian Act."

Genocide "is currently happening in Canada", he concluded, in case you missed it the first time.

For good measure, a companion letter was sent to the "UN Rapporteur for Indigenous James Anaya".
( Hey, we just report 'em as we see 'em.) It was signed by Gerald McIvor, who, apparently, is a "political assistant" with SCO.

It states:

"Please find attached a letter from Southern Grand Chief Murray Clearsky to Stuart Murray who is CEO of the Canadian Human Rights Museum in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada."

"Canada refuses to admit that they have been attempting genocide on the Original Peoples of the land known as Canada since confederation."
"They refuse to acknowledge this and their denial is contrary to the formal apology that Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper made in 2008."

"I trust you will keep this concern in consideration when you do come to Canada to meet with First Nations leaders to investigate the ongoing passive genocide which is being perpetrated upon us as a race of people who are incidentally the true owners of this land. It would be of great importance for Grand Chief Clearsky to meet with you while you are in Canada in the near future. Please let me know if you can meet with him while you are in Canada."

Yep, those Nazi's only engaged in genocide for three years, but Canada has been at it for 146 years and counting.  We're no quitters.

There you have it.  The Southern Indian Chiefs insists that the $21 million the federal government gives the CMHR each year be used to promote the idea around the world that Canada is equivalent to Nazi Germany.
One aboriginal even knows who to blame if that won't happen. Blame the Jews.

Don Marks, editor of Grassroots News, which describes itself as Manitoba's aboriginal newspaper, posted this comment to the Winnipeg Free Press:

The 'blame the Jews' cry will come as no surprise to a segment of the Winnipeg Jewish community which has been keeping an eagle eye on how the CMHR intends to treat the Holocaust.

The first shock came in April when the museum's "head of stakeholder relations" revealed that the museum was rejecting one of the Jewish community's bedrock beliefs about the Holocaust.

We summarized the decision:

"Experts hired by the museum say that claims that the Holocaust was the cause of the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights are exaggerated and unsupported, so the CMHR has eliminated any allegation that one was the cause of the other."

This led to follow-up questions for the CMHR, and their answers---reported first in the online Winnipeg Jewish Review---were anything but comforting. For example...

Question:
"How will the need for refuge during and after the Shoah, and the necessity to re-establish a Jewish homeland, be conveyed to the Canadian public in the Holocaust gallery?"

Answer:
The CMHR will not "include material on the establishment of the State of Israel in the Holocaust gallery". 
Jewish proponents of the CMHR know that the state of Israel-Arab relations will be a flashpoint at the museum, starting with the very foundation of Israel.

Unease only increased in June when news came out of Israel that Palestinians intended to build a museum of their own where their side of the conflict will be told.

Ramallah - From a building overlooking a small garden in this West Bank city, employees are working on the Palestinian Museum -- the first large-scale contemporary Palestinian museum. The cornerstone is finally being laid, some 15-years after the project was first proposed.
 
The original idea came from the 50th anniversary of what Palestinians call “Nakba” -- the Disaster -- the phrase that refers to the birth of the modern state of Israel in 1948, and the displacement of some 700,000 Palestinians.
 
“Initially, everyone wanted to make this museum in Jerusalem but we knew that the Israelis would make this impossible,” Omar Kattan, head of Palestinian Museum's work team, told The Media Line. “After things became possible again in terms of the political situation, we re-opened this file and commissioned the study and developed a framework to do it.”
 
“We came up with a unique concept that is basically a museum without a collection, and a museum that is based on a network rather than a building,” Kattan said.
 
“The idea [evolved] from the “Memory Museum of the Nakba” to a museum that will use the tools of history to come out with a modern dialogue,” Jack Persekian, the director and curator of the Palestinian Museum told The Media Line. “We’re moving forward from representing an incident that happened in a certain time to representing the Palestinians wherever they are.”

This prompted editor Rhonda Spivak to write:

"... at some point the CMHR is going to put on an exhibit or exhibits (temporary) relating to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and chances are that we will be able to get a pretty good idea of the types of things that Palestinians will want to have appear in the CMHR about their lives by looking at the types of exhibits they intend to display in their museum."
 
"In an article about the Palestinian Museum done by the Media Line, the following is a description given as to the nature of the exhibits:
 
"The exhibits will include some of the Palestinian nationalistic symbols such as keys that symbolize homes that Israel destroyed or from which Arab families fled. Keys and title deeds are meant to refer to the displacement of people and the right of return claimed by Palestinians. Visual and written material, including photos and other forms of art, will offer a variety of Palestinian stories the curators say will be relevant to Palestinians all over the world."
 
Note that the above description refers to the" right of return claimed by Palestinians" and "the keys to homes that Israel destroyed." This means that what will be at issue in the Palestinian Museum is the birth of the very existence of the State of Israel. When Palestinians say the "right of return" they are claiming the right to return en masse to pre-67 Israel , and not about returning to a future Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza as part of a two state solution."

There was a time when the Jewish community felt confident it could control the debate over Israeli/Palestinian history.

As late as two years ago, the CMHR mysteriously found itself incommunicado to Palestinian representatives who tried to discuss how their story would be told. Hmmm.

Nobody could explain how 10 tries to reach somebody went unanswered.  Maybe it was that pesky spam filter, eh?  And when somebody did get through, they were told a museum rep would get back to them. Someone did---two years later.  Nope, nothing suspicious there.

But now that the Asper family and their minions have had the reins of the museum taken away, the fact that the Palestinian voice may be heard within the human rights museum walls is causing consternation.

Nobody, though, should be more agitated that Heritage Minister James Moore.

Was it only one year ago, less one month, that he was in town to put out the fire over the determination that the Holocaust be given special treatment in the museum?

He spoke at the Winnipeg Free Press News Cafe---before an audience of 16 people. 

Only The Black Rod reported on what he said.

Moore said he told museum CEO Stuart Murray "many times" that:
 
"this museum is NOT going to be --- CANNOT be --- a source of division in this country. Because taxpayers are not going to pump in $21 million per year to operate this museum if they see it as a perpetual source of division for the people of Winnipeg, the people of Manitoba and the people of Canada."
